A reflective essay based on an episode of patient care.
Patient-centred care is a fundamental issue which was discussed at great length during one of the forums (Appendix 2A). It seemed most students had their own opinion already formed about patient-centred care and in turn their own experiences.
This reflective account is based on an experience from my 3rd year management placement. Using Gibbs’s Reflective Model (1988) I aim to outline what occurred throughout the incident which involved providing clear communication and patient centered care and how this can be linked to the Quality Strategy in relation to the people’s priorities.

This essay has expressed a clear understanding of the importance of the person centred care approach when caring for an older patient as a result of in depth research of nursing literature and from this student’s own personal experience from clinical placement.
Person-centred care aims to place the individual at the centre of all care decisions, taking into account patient preferences, expectations and needs during the care planning process (Kupeli et al., 2016).
